the uglier you go to bed, the prettier you’ll wake up.

Have you ever came across one of those dystopian type videos where people seem to be unraveling themselves like a “mummy,” and calling it “morning shed”? Apparently, the uglier you go to bed, the prettier you’ll wake up… Interesting. Is that really true?
I’m the type to only listen to things once it trends (I know, f*ck me, LMFAO), but I’ve tried to implement little by little some things into my nighttime routine AND OMG… I can’t imagine myself not doing what I do today. Let me break it down for you, and maybe those videos won’t seem as “dystopian” as we (the general public) initially thought. Hear me out…
Of course, my night starts out with my skincare routine. As a veteran “skinfluencer” (do you hate me yet?), I’m a firm believer in an extensive skincare routine - morning or night. Call it consumerism, call it trend rider, I don’t care — I need my skin cycling routine. You can check out my WOMF (what’s on my face?) page to see the products I’m currently using so I won’t torture you with the same list here, but just know that despite me being so anal about it, I’m actually bad at being consistent with my skincare. Some nights I don’t take my makeup off. Call me gross, but I call it “b*tch I’m tired, LET ME SLEEP!”.
Next, we move onto the detox step of my routine. This is the most important, in my opinion. Let me paint a picture for you… Before 2024, I would brew a warm cup of black coffee in the morning and take my juul… that was my detox, lol. One sip and one hit - we’re in the bathroom!
However, in 2024, I wanted to find a better alternative for myself to get my bowel moving. CUE CASTOR OIL PACKS!* They help with inflammation, detoxifying your liver and pain reduction. Castor oil, whose content is said to have about 90% of rinoleic acid, absorbs easily into the skin and its absorption is increased when using a castor oil pack. More research is needed, of course, but when I tell you I was running to the bathroom my first night using one of these… girl, a b*tch was RUNNING. I use one every night now and put on my waist trainer right on top before bed.
Another major player in my detox routine is taking magnesium citrate every night. Magnesium citrate* is in a class of medications called saline laxatives. It works by causing water to be absorbed by your stool, making it easier to pass by softening it. Magnesium itself is also a cofactor (helper molecule) and is involved in more than 600 reactions in your body such as energy creation, protein formation, gene maintenance, muscle movements and nervous system regulation.
Overnight beauty rituals are the perfect cherry on top to waking up “pretty”. To me, these feel like one extra step to make getting ready in the morning much easier and faster.
Heatless curls / blowouts*: I love a good heatless hair hack, especially one that’s tried and true. If you can’t get your hands on a heatless hair rod like these, use your socks instead!
Mouth tape: I am a big advocate for mouth tape, even though at first I genuinely thought I was gonna choke in my sleep. Taping your mouth encourages you to breathe through your nose, thus improving your sleep quality and can even help with snoring. Instead of using those “one time use” mouth tapes, save yourself some $$ and go for a facial tape instead, like this one.
Hair bonnet*: To help decrease hair breakage, I always recommend using a silk hair bonnet when you go to bed. I like to apply hair oil, do my heatless curls and keep it all contained in a silk bonnet.
Overnight face mask: I loooove overnight face masks, especially this one from Biodance*. Medicube also has an overnight collagen wrapping mask*, for those who don’t want to wear a sheet mask in bed. It’s the best way to wake up with glowing skin already.
Cuticle oil* and hand cream*: These are a must, especially since it’s been so cold out. I love to apply cuticle oil on my nails and toes, then follow up with a thick moisturizer. I’ll even go so far as to “slug” (apply petroleum jelly on top of the cream application) for further moisturization, then apply socks (to my feet, not my hands, lol…)
Clearly, there’s probably a sh*t ton of other things people do before bed, but this is all I need. Any more I ask myself to do, I might end up not doing anything at all.
See you in the next post…x
with love,
