my facial shaving tips

**PLEASE READ DISCLAIMER HERE.

I remember seeing someone shave their face for the first time and thinking what the actual f*ck? 😦 Growing up, my mom would tell me to “never shave your armpits with a razor, the hair will grow back thicker.” This same logic deterred me from even attempting to shave my face; but, luckily, facial shaving doesn’t cause the hair to grow back thicker because 1) it does not affect the hair follicle or 2) change the growth pattern underneath. I do it because it helps with letting my skincare products better absorb into my skin as well as helps me have a smooth base for my makeup. Other than that, I really could care less about shaving my face, honestly. It’s not like it’s what caused my skin to clear up; but, it does help give me a little more leverage when it comes to my skincare and makeup routines.

It is important to note that while you can try shaving your face at home, I recommend letting a professional dermaplane your skin. Dermaplaning is different from facial shaving because dermaplaning involves using a surgical blade to remove not only the hair on your face but also the top layer of skin cells. This involves precision… Like, you need to go to school and get certified for this type of precision. When I say “shaving my face,” I mean using a single blade razor, facial oil, and literally just shaving my facial hair. Either way - if you’re not comfortable with this, or don’t think your skin can take it, please don’t do it. It’s not necessary.

Speaking of skin tolerance, I also wouldn’t recommend facial shaving if you have active acne and / or sensitive skin. Shaving usually causes the skin to get even more irritated and we don’t want to risk it just because some girl on a blog said she does it. Try at your own risk and if you do, let me know how it went. Or, let the results speak for themselves 😌 The amount of times you will have to “reshave” may vary but I always try to do it at least once a month.

WHAT I USE TO SHAVE MY FACE:

  • Facial oil

  • Single blade razor

  • Alcohol (for sanitizing razor)

  • Micellar water

  • Cotton pads

    FACIAL SHAVING TIPS:

  1. Sanitize razor before and after use

  2. Hold skin taught while shaving in a downwards motion ⤵

  3. Ensure razor is at 45º — NOT 90º

  4. Use micellar water and cotton pads to wipe face clean after shaving

  5. Apply hydrating serum and moisturizer afterwards to keep skin nourished

  6. Avoid peeling products / chemical exfoliants for at least 3 days after shaving face

  7. Apply SPF daily!

Always be careful and patch test with any product. Try at your own risk. ✧₊⁺
